Life guarded swimming beach, Indiana's only working lighthouse and catwalk, fitness trails, splash park, concessions (seasonal), historic monuments, marina and boat launch, public access fishing, fish cleaning station, zoo, outdoor skating rink, amphitheater, gazebo and historic rock garden. Requires seasonal parking fee.

Launch Fee $10 per day.
Car and motorcycle parking $7 per day.
Parking Fee for truck/trailer/motorhome/bus $14 per day.
 
ANIMALS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN PARK OR BEACH AREA (Service Animals Welcome)
 
Washington Park Seasonal Launch Ramp Permit $100 - available at the Michigan City Port Authority 219.872.1712.

The Michigan City Port Authority announced the Washington Park Launch Ramp will be closed on the following dates in 2017:

June 4 - NWI Paddling Association Fun Float

July 4 - Holiday (Fireworks)

July 22 & 23  - Soccer in the Sand Tournament

Aug 2 - Aug 6 - Super Boat International Great Lakes Grand Prix

Aug 11 & 12 - City by the Lake Triathlon

 

Dates are subject to change if new events are added. The boat launch may be closed due to insufficient parking for trailers on busy days.

Directions to Washington Park

 

From Downtown Chicago
Approximately 66 miles

  • Take I80/94 East or I90 East
  • Exit on US 421 North (Exit 34B) - US 421 North turns into Franklin Street
  • Take US 421/Franklin Street North through Michigan City until it dead ends in front of the public library
  • Turn right on 4th Street and drive one block
  • Turn left on Pine Street
  • Follow past City Hall, over the bridge, to Washington Park

 


 

From Southwest Michigan (Grand Rapids area)
Approximately 125 miles

  • Take I-96 West
  • Exit onto and follow I-94 West
  • Exit and follow US-20 West (Exit 40B)
  • Stay straight and go onto US 35 North (this is also Michigan Boulevard)
  • Turn left (west) on Highway 12
  • Follow Route 12 southwest into Michigan City
  • As you enter town, pass through two traffic lights
  • After the overpass, turn right onto Pine Street
  • Follow Pine Street over the bridge to Washington Park

 


 

From the New Buffalo area

 

  • Follow Route 12 southwest into Michigan City
  • As you enter town, pass through two traffic lights

From Indianapolis area
Approximately 177 miles

  • Take I-65 North
  • Exit onto and follow I-94 East
  • Exit on US 421 North (Exit 34B) - US 421 North turns into Franklin Street

  • Take IN Highway 2 West
  • Continue onto US Highway 20 West 
  • Continue onto E. Michigan Blvd. (or Highway 35 North)
  • Turn left onto US Highway 12 West at stoplight
  • Drive one block and turn right on Pine Street at stoplight (at City Hall)
  • Stay right and follow over the bridge
  • Park entrance is on the left across from B & E Marine
